Keytouch For Mac
KeyTouch is a $0.99 app that is available to download on the App Store right now, and by itself it doesn’t really do a great deal. Pair it with the freely downloadable companion app on a Mac though, and magic starts to happen before your very eyes. Well, not quite magic. Sep 30, 2016 KeyTouch is another solution that makes use of TouchID on your iPhone for locking and unlocking your Mac. The unique selling point here, however, is that it allows for not just logging into your Mac, but other websites as well using iPhone’s TouchID, making it a true replacement for the fingerprint reader that you would find on Windows laptops.
Unlike most teenagers who are busy with school work and sports, Erik van der Plas and Tom de Ruiter are two very young Dutch software developers. At the ripe old ages of 13 and 14 years, respectively, they have come up with an app that uses Apple’s Touch ID security feature on iOS devices to actually unlock Mac computers.

Dubbed KeyTouch, the app is already available for download from the App Store for just $0.99.
Basically, Apple fans who happen to own Touch ID-enabled iPhone and iPad models can use the app to unlock and lock their Macs, as long as their OS X computers have Bluetooth 4.0 LE support and are running the KeyTouch companion app.
The application will also let them use a fingerprint on an iOS device to fill in a password prompt on a connected Mac, in addition to locking and unlocking the computer.
The developers say on their website that KeyTouch uses AES 256-bit encryption for storing passwords on the Mac, and no passwords are transferred to the iOS device at any time during use.
KeyTouch isn’t the only app like this available in the App Store, but it’s certainly something that’s well above what you’d expect from such young developers/entrepreneurs.

Touch ID on an iOS device is a convenient method for unlocking apps and the device itself, and now you can use it to unlock your Mac.
With the launch of iOS 8, Apple introduced a new feature called Handoff. The feature connects your nearby iOS and OS X devices to each other, making it possible to seamlessly switch between devices while not having to worry about losing your place or work.
One feature missing from Handoff is the ability to share Touch ID from an iOS device to a Mac. A pair of developers are trying to bring Touch ID capabilities to OS X with a new app called KeyTouch.
In its current form, KeyTouch will use Touch ID on a nearby iPad or iPhone lock and unlock your Mac, along with enter your password when prompted. There’s two parts to the making this work, an iOS app and a free Mac app.
After installing both apps, you go through a quick setup process and a few minutes later you’ll have Touch ID linked to your Mac. Admittedly, the process to use the service is a bit cumbersome right now. In lieu of typing in your password, you unlock your iOS device, launch the app, tap the screen, then place your finger on the home button.
The developers, however, are aware of the issue and are working on spending up the process. Additionally, the team is also working on an API for website developers to implement. This would allow KeyTouch users to potentially log into sites and services on a Mac using Touch ID from iOS.
